Tried Fountain City Diner Today
So after a hard morning spent hunting dusty bunnies at our house we treated ourselves to lunch at the Fountain City Diner. (It's opposite Pratt's Market on Tazewell Pike). We were a little hesitant because it was after 1pm and a little late for lunch.
The place is pretty cool looking and boys loved the big windows to watch the traffic go by (any positive diversion is always welcome). The booths were huge, which hubby and I liked as the kids always end up squishing up against us. It was also super clean. The menu had tons of options. Hubby had a burger that he said was pretty good (he's pretty picky) and I had a Cesar Salad with Red Pepper Aoli and it was actually really yummy and I don't like iceberg lettuce usually. The grilled cheese for the boys was nice and gooey with cheese (just a half sandwich per boy, but it was a good size) and each one came with a side dish. The white cheese mac n'cheese was good. I had a BLT and I didn't mind it, except the bread was a little dry, the addition of some of my Cesar Salad gave it just a little more flavor. Oh, and like any good diner they serve milk shakes. These were like thick chocolate ice cream in a cup they were so thick!
The owner came up and said Hi and the staff were really warm and friendly. Our only complaint was that it was a bit on the expensive side. The kids' meals were $4.99 a pop, the shakes $2.99 and $4.99 each (if I remember correctly). So the tab really added up. That being said, that was our only complaint, we're hoping to try breakfast another time as they have a great choice of interesting pancakes, waffles and french toast to choose from...
Has anyone else been? What did they think?
