I really honestly with all my heart had no idea this problem actually existed. I have heard it made fun of in jokes but didn't think it was a real thing. This woman has written a book about it and how motherhood saved her. She had 15 abortions in 15 years.
http://community.todaymoms.com/_news...ood-saved-her- What do you think? Have you ever met anyone with this problem? Do you think it is an excuse? I think there is an issue people can have with mutilating themselves. But I really don't know what to think about this. So she had a rough child hood. Isn't this what we all just turned our backs on to Cobbins and Davidson? This doesn't give her the right to take another life. But legally she got away with it. I'm not aiming for a pro choice/pro life discussion here. So, let's be careful. Just your thoughts on an abuse of abortions.

I read her story and it was sad. Sad in a she needs mental help kind of way. She wanted kids but was afraid to have them. I can't imagine the internal struggle this woman went through.
Do you all think there should be a limit put on the number of abortions a woman should have? I think it is one thing to have one but it is even more disturbing to think of it used as a form of birth control. Is there a limit?? I will have to look into it, I think for some reason I remember hearing 4, but that may vary... |

I don't think she should have been allowed to have SO many abortions. Abortions really are not meant to be used as regular birth control. No matter what the stance on the issue is I don't think that level should be legal. Rough childhood= deal with it yourself don't bring others into it, that is what makes her different from an anorexic.

Wow I'm really torn on this story. I'm pro-choice but by no means am I pro-abortion. I don't think it is something that should be abused and used as a form of birth control. But I'm also torn as to regulating how many abortions 1 person is allowed to have. It makes since to put a limit to it but to pro-lifers it also makes sense for abortion to be illegal already. I guess what I would like to see happen is some heavy duty counseling offered by abortion clinics to those who have gone through abortions be it 1 abortion or multiple abortions. I honestly don't know if there is a counseling process that goes with abortion or if there is how in depth it is. But I especially think that anyone getting multiple abortions should have to seek counseling from the abortion clinics to get to the root of the problem. Perhaps if this woman had gotten counseling earlier she could have realized what she was doing and gotten out of her controlling relationship. What a sad story.

One thing I am feeling here is a little resentment I think. I understand people want to share their stories and how they overcame tragedy. But now she is profiting from book sales off her story. She also has another book in the works about her continued recovery while raising her children. I think she should be made to donate the money to counseling services or some other charity.
I feel like she is getting her 15 minutes of fame off something shameful. I'm really surprised there are not limits already. Seems like a given??

But her 15 minutes of fame are anything but positive. Everyone that reads her book, reads her interview, sees her on tv will know what she has done. Her co-workers, friends, family, etc now know. She will now have to overcome wondering if everyone she meets knows her past and are they judging her for it. Will her kids find out by their classmates when they are in elementary school. Will other mothers at school talk behind her back....etc. I'm sure this will be addressed in her continued therapy, but that's 15 minutes of fame that I wouldn't want...

You really do have to question her sanity. Like you all are saying, it is not a great 15 minutes. Who would want to bring that out and brag about it. I don't care what context she tries to put this in, I doubt we can find anyone, even the biggest abortion advocate has to take a step back and look at her situation and think, that is NOT what it is for.
Running on that point, if I was a supporter for abortion I would hate this story and the fact that it comes out. This gives the pro lifers a great poster child for the reasons it should be illegal. She abused her ability to end her pregnancy. |

I just found this article-
http://www.commercialappeal.com/news...-passes-house/ It looks like this is something we may be voting on in 2014 and the general assembly will vote on it in 2011. Seems like a long time. I guess this is about a right to privacy too. If you put a limit out there then you have to give up your privacy as well.

Maybe she is using the writing of the book as a catharsis of sorts? Getting it all out on paper might be a type of therapy for her. But I really don't see a reason to share it with the whole world, maybe just those who are close to her. I didn't need or really want to hear this. I just makes me sad and makes my heart hurt. There are so many women out there who can't even get pregnant one time, more less 17 times...the 15 she aborted and the 2 she had. She is throwing their struggles in their face. Ugh. I can't imagine what kind of psychological issues one must have to drive them this far.

Not sure I'd really call her addicted to abortions. I don't think a once a year decision qualifies as an addiction. Addicted to drama, perhaps, with abortion playing into that. And writing the book can feed into that need for drama and controversy.
There are very, very, very few people who use abortion as "birth control," but this story will definitely be fuel for the anti-abortion fire. I am very understanding with the choices people make when they have had a bad childhood, but I am exceptionally cautious when they use it as an excuse themselves. I don't like it when people don't take responsibility for their own actions. I hope she finds the peace she is looking for.
